A Rights Group;Imo Advocacy For Good Governance,IAGG has condemned in strong terms the alleged Imo state government effort to host Internally Displaced Camps, IDP, in Nsu, Mbano LGA.
The Group accused the government of a clandestine move to reportedly Islamize Igbo land.
In a Press statement signed by its National Convener/Chairman, Board of Trustees, Apostle Ken Nwanguma and the chief scribe, Engr Ifeanyi Opara and was issued to media organizations, it claimed that it is committed to enthroning good governance in the state.
It further described as wicked, insensitive and dangerous the alleged subtle plan of the government, querying if it is a priority project that holds maximum value for Imo people.
“For a long time we have watched with great disappointment how Igbo politicians have turned themselves as slaves and stooges of the Northern political overlords with the intention of executing their selfish-personal agenda.
“Sadly these politicians who are never worth the qualities of leadership use their kinsmen as tools to secure and hold their position thereby further marginalizing their people. It is on account of this sabotage that Ndigbo have continued to play second fiddle in the scheme of things.
“Much as we are committed to promoting national unity, records indicate that the Imo state governor is a strong loyalists of the Northern oligarchs drawing from not only his body language but his pronouncements, actions and policies.
“Recently the governor was reported to have allegedly promised payment of bridal sum for marriages involving any Igbo man and the Hausa-Fulani ethnic groups. We recall the governor’s unfavourable disposition to the Igbo during the RUGA controversy. Hope Uzodinma was conspicuously absent during the period Southern Governor’s Forum held sway while it fought against policies that impinged on the welfare of the Southerners.
“We have no iota of doubt that this latest move to please his (alleged )masters is a master stroke strategized to indirectly infiltrate the Igbo land and consequently influence and allegedly energize the Islamization of the South East.
“Imo State is bereft of Federal presence and needs development oriented industries that can catalyze the growth of the state. The IDP camp is certainly not one of them. It will rather exacerbate the heightened insecurity in the state”
The IAGG therefore called on all Imo people to reject the establishment of the camp as it holds little or no value because of the dangers that it portends. It also called on Igbo politicians to shun selfishness and promote the good of Igbo land always.
Meanwhile, the Imo state government has vehemently opposed and debunked the above allegation through its commissioner for Information/Strategy,Hon Declan Mbadiwe Emelumba.
We also recall that a former Senator,Frank Ibezim had also berated the idea as categorically false, that the said NOUN Study centre attracted by him is a purported IDP centre. It is a Skill Acquisitions centre,he insisted.
He described the rumour as an attempt to destroy his integrity and tarnish his image.
